We believe in doing our very best to make a huge difference in the lives of another individual who is experiencing tough times. Whether he or she is battling cancer or another serious illness, it is our mission to extend our helping hands. Many of the people we help are young children who are battling cancer and other chronic illnesses. We have volunteers and committee members who wholeheartedly give their time, donations, and talents to make an impact in others’ lives.
Those involved with the Palermo Heart-to-Heart Foundation initiate fundraisers to provide the monetary support for cancer patients. It is our hope that the victims will become strong survivors.
If you are interested in learning more about us, or if you would like to make a donation, we invite you to do so!
Just a few days after Easter this year, we took our 4-year-old son, Jacob, to the doctor for a skin rash and a reoccurring fever, just assuming it was a viral infection. His doctor immediately got bloodwork on him and within minutes she gave us heart breaking news, Leukemia. She had a bed waiting for him at Janet Weis Children’s Hospital and so we rushed him up there. More bloodwork and continued tests have confirmed that our sweet Jacob has Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia and will need at least 2.5 to 3 years of treatment to fight this awful disease.
We learned not long after Jacob’s diagnosis about the Beads of Courage program and their sponsor Palermo Heart to Heat. In just 3 months of treatment, Jacob has 210 beads and counting. Jacob enjoys helping us string the beads on and admires all the different shapes and colors that each bead represents. It’s very overwhelming to see a bead for every poke, chemotherapy treatment, infusion, surgery etc.
However, we are forever grateful for Beads of Courage for putting a perspective of what pediatric cancer really entails because most days, time feels like it’s at a standstill. Each bead tells a story for what our little boy has endured and shows his true strength.
Thank you, Beads of Courage, and the Palermo Heart to Heart Foundation for giving us hope!
