132 duffers participated in the 16^th Annual Palermo Invitational Golf Tournament held at the Sugarloaf Golf Course on Sunday July 9th. The spectacular day produced a new championship team of Rob Palermo, Dave "Boomer" Steele, Ridge Takacis and Gato carving out a fourteen under par to claim bragging rights for one year.  First Flight winners were led by Mickey Motto and also included Marty Biasi, Judge Mark Ciavarella and Marco Ciavarella.  Second Flight team members were Don Gregory, Mike Kraynyak, Ed Gorski and Gene Perek. The Third Flight winners was the newly formed Joseph foursome. 

The real winners in this tournament however, are Malachi Gray and his family who was selected by the Palermo Heart-to-Heart Foundation in conjunction with Dr. James Powell to go on and all expense paid trip to Walt Disney World.  Additionally the families of Joseph Malega and Johnathan Arroya will be going on local trips to Ocean City NJ, and Hershey Park. A final donation was made to the Michael Fox family in the amount of $500. The money raised from this tournament is designated for children who suffer from cancer or other life threatening diseases and sent on a dream vacations.  The tournament raised $10,000 through sponsorship donations, a raffle with the grand prize was a complete set of custom fitted golf clubs, and various other golf games of chance offered.  After a very informative and heart wrenching presentation given by Dr. Powell a first time auction was held featuring sports memorbilia directed by the very entertaining Judge Mark Ciavarella. The auction rasied an additional $1200 which was terrific for a first time event.  This unbelievable gesture of generosity is what the Palermo Heart-to-Heart Foundation continues to generate in the hearts of all those who attend this special event. 

Next year’s tournament is Sunday, July 15, 2007. Mark your calendars and plan on attending. This year’s tournament was filled out two weeks before the deadline, so register early.
